Abstract:
Provided are: a sanitation device which is capable of shortening treatment times compared to conventional photocatalytic activity, has excellent microorganism killing effects, and is capable of satisfactorily maintaining the sanitary conditions of an article by preventing proliferation of microorganisms due to the recovery of the microorganisms; and a sanitation method. The sanitation device (100) includes: a casing (10) that has a space (112) capable of housing an article (110) therein; a photocatalyst portion (20) that faces the space (112) and includes a photocatalyst material (114); and two or more types of light sources that are provided inside the casing (10) and have different wavelength regions. The light sources include a first light source (30) that has a peak wavelength in a wavelength region of 180 to 280 nm, and a second light source (40) which has a wavelength that is greater than 280 nm and that causes the catalytic activity of the photocatalyst material (114).
