Title:
THE SCALPEL WITH A SHARP EDGE ON A SPECIFIC PART
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/046629
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part comprises two pieces of stainless metal plates (1) and a blade (3). The width of the blade with a sharp edge is 2 - 6 millimeters and the height is 2 - 5 millimeters. On the two ends of the sharp edge are parts that are without sharpness. The scalpel is made by forming two pieces of metal plates into the shape needed with a notch for holding a blade. These two pieces of metal are symmetrical. The two pieces of metal are superimposed on each other and held together. A blade is cut out so that it is larger than the notch where a blade is to be inserted. Then the blade is put in place where the notch is in between the two plates. After that, the three pieces of metal are welded together. The result is the scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part in the shape of the metal pieces that are assembled.

Claims:
1. The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part comprises of two symmetrical corrosion resistant metal plates (1) and a blade (3). Wherein one end of each of the two plates(l) is a U-shaped notch (2) with sharpness of which the width of the space is between2 - 6 millimeters, and the height of the space is between 2-5 millimeters, each side of the notch(2) is without sharpness. The special characteristic of the knife is the production method that makes use of two symmetric pieces of corrosion resistant metal plates that are placed together with the blade (3) placed in between them. The blade is inserted at the position where the U-shaped notch (2) is located and this is where the sharp edge of the scalpel is located. Then the corrosion resistant metal plates (1) and the blade (3) are held together.

2. The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part according to in claim 1 wherein the said scalpel has corrosive resistant metal plates (1 ) with a thickness of 0.2 - 1.5 millimeters and is made of the materials selected from stainless steel, aluminum, or titanium.

3. The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part according to in claim 1 or 2 wherein the said scalpel comprising a blade (3) with a thickness of less than 0.1 - 0.5 millimeter and with a size larger than the space at the position where the sharp edge is to be made (2).

4. The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the said scalpel having the corrosion resistant metal plates (1 ) and the blade (3) that are held together by means of welding, soldering, rivet nut or gluing.

Description:
The name describing the invention

The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part

Related field of the invention

Medical Science related to surgery

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Surgery where the target tissues are small and in a confined area to be performed without having to cut the normal tissues nearby is a method used in operation to treat some diseases. For example, cutting a tendon sheath in a trigger finger surgery, cutting a transverse carpal ligament in carpal tunnel syndrome or cutting dural sheath in brain or spinal surgery, etc. These surgeries require a special scalpel with the sharp edge width of only 2 - 6 millimeters that must be in the correct position specifically designed for the purpose.

The invention can be done by forming metal to make a scalpel and sharpen the edge directly on the metal in order to obtain the sharp edge on the position where it is specifically needed. In the case that the designed scalpel is needed to have a small size of sharp edge of 2 - 6 millimeters and the height of 2 - 5 millimeters by using a process of sharpening the edge directly on the metal to obtain consistent sharpness and thickness of not exceeding 0.1 - 0.5 millimeters requires the skill of the person who sharpens it. This is difficult to control the quality of the product in mass production. Thus, the inventors had to seek the method of inventing the sharpness of the edge of the blade so that the inventors can produce scalpels with a specific part of the small sharp edge in a large quantity and with the same quality and the same standards on every scalpel that is made.

Characteristics and objectives of the invention

The objectives of this invention are to invent scalpels that have a sharp edge at a specific part of the blade and to make their sharpness with the same quality and standards, and to be able to produce the said scalpel in a large quantity without having to sharpen the edge of the blade during the production process.

The scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part comprising two pieces of corrosion resistant metal plates (1) with a position where a U-shaped notch is made (2) and a blade (3). The space or position for making a sharp edge has a width of 2 - 6 millimeters and the height of 2 - 5 millimeters. There is a part without sharpness on each of the two ends of the sharp edge. The scalpel is made by forming metal in a designed shape in two pieces. Each of these symmetrical pieces of metal has a part that is cut to make a U-shaped notch to provide a space for the blade. The two pieces of symmetrical metal plates are superimposed and held together. A thin blade with a sharp edge such as a razor blade or a surgical blade is cut in a size larger than the space or the U-shaped notch made on the two symmetrical pieces of metal plates, then the thin blade is placed in the space in between the two metal plates. Then the three pieces of metal are soldered together.

COMPLETE DISCLOSERSURE OF INVENTION

According to Figure 1, the scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part comprising two pieces of corrosion resistant metal plates (1) such as stainless steel, aluminum, or titanium, and a blade (3). The position where the sharp edge is to be made has a width of 2 - 6 millimeters and the height of the sharp edge is 2 - 5 millimeters. The two ends of the sharp edge are parts that are without sharpness and blunt. The invention method is as follows:

1. Make the structure of the scalpel from two symmetrical pieces , of corrosion resistant metal plates (1 ) with a thickness of 0.2 - 1.5 millimeters in a required shape.

2. The structure of the scalpel in Item 1 has a space or a notch for a sharp edge to be made (2). The width of the space or the notch is 2 - 6 millimeters and the height is 2 - 5 millimeters for a blade (3) to be put in.

3. The sharp edge is obtained from a blade (3) with a thickness of not exceeding 0.1 - 0.5 millimeter such as a razor blade or a surgery blade, and with the width that is wider than the space or the notch (2) to make the sharp edge specified in Item 2.

4. Superimpose the two pieces of symmetrical stainless metal plates and insert the blade (3) in between the two corrosion resistant metal plates (1) in the position where the space or notch is made for the sharp edge (2). Hold the corrosion resistant metal pieces (1) and the blade (3) together by means of welding, soldering, rivet nut or gluing in order for the blade to be held in between the two metal structures.

After the metal structures and the blade are held together, a scalpel with a sharp edge on a specific part is obtained as required as appears in Figure 2. Thus, we have the scalpel that has a sharp edge only at the specific position on the metal plates that are held together for use in an operation in a limited area. The sharp edge cuts only the small target tissues, and the parts without sharpness at the two ends of the sharp edge do not cut normal tissues nearby the target tissues, and thus, reduces injuries of the normal tissues.
