Abstract:
Provided is a scintillator for neutrons that has excellent neutron detection efficiency and n/γ discrimination performance, and also provided is a neutron detector that uses the neutron scintillator. The scintillator for neutrons is formed from a eutectic body in which laminar lithium fluoride crystals and laminar calcium fluoride crystals are alternately layered and the thickness of the laminar lithium fluoride crystal layers in the eutectic body is 0.1 to 5 µm, or the scintillator for neutrons is formed from a eutectic body in which laminar lithium fluoride crystals and laminar calcium fluoride crystals are layered alternately and the laminar calcium fluoride crystal layers in the eutectic body are linearly continuous in at least one direction. Furthermore, the basic structure of the neutron detector is formed from the neutron scintillator and a light detector.
