Title:
SCORCHING BRAKE LININGS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002050448
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for thermally treating a surface, especially the friction surface of a brake lining, in order to increase the roughness thereof by means of partial carbonisation. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out said method. The aim of the invention is to ensure, in a simple and cost-effective manner, that the roughness of at least one surface is increased to a desired value before being installed in a technical appliance. To this end, the surface is heated in a contactless manner by means of radiation using an electromagnetic beam which has an active component in the near-infrared region, especially in the wavelength range between 0,8 mu m and 1,5 mu m (NIR source). This operating mode especially enables not only one surface to be thermally treated, but also a plurality of surfaces at the same time in a very simple and cost-effective manner.
