Abstract:
Provided is a screw rotor machining method in which screw tooth grooves are formed by simultaneously controlling a plurality of rotation shafts that are for rotating a workpiece and turning a tool. The machining method includes: a step of cutting down to a desired depth; a step of performing rough machining of side surfaces of tooth grooves; a step of performing finishing machining of the side surfaces of the tooth grooves; and a step of performing finishing machining of bottom surfaces of the tooth grooves. In the step of performing the finishing machining of the bottom surfaces of the tooth grooves, used is an end mill that is provided with a cutting edge of a size equal to or greater than an axial cut-in amount at the side surface, that has a tip shape corresponding to the bottom surface of the screw tooth groove, and that has an outer shape of a size equal to or less than the diameter of a tool that can be inserted to the bottom of the screw tooth groove at a position of maximum groove depth.
