Abstract:

Provided are a scrub (1) that facilitates the removal of old skin cells and is unlikely to enter the food chain, and a method for using the same. The scrub (1) has activated charcoal (10) that is spherical, the activated charcoal (10) having a grain size in the range of 100-800 μm by median diameter, a peak pore diameter in the range of 0.7-1.2 nm, and a micropore pore volume of 0.5 cm3/g or higher. The activated charcoal (10) satisfies the following condition (1). Condition (1): In a case in which a 1 g sample of activated charcoal is sprinkled on the water surface of a beaker containing 100 g of 20°C pure water to a water depth of 5 cm, the beaker is placed in a vacuum desiccator and evacuated for 20 minutes using a vacuum pump, then the pure water in the beaker is stirred for one minute at 100 rpm using a stirrer, and the beaker is allowed to stand as is for 30 minutes, 95 mass% or more of the sample precipitates to the bottom of the beaker.
