Abstract:
A sealed battery has a case (10) having an opening and also has a lid (60) for closing the case opening. An inner projection entering the inside of the case and fitting in the case opening is formed on that surface of the lid which is opposed to the case. A case peripheral wall (14), surrounding the case opening, and the lid are joined together by welding. A barrier layer (70) for preventing direct contact between the case peripheral wall and the lid is provided in a region in which the case peripheral wall and the lid are close to each other and which includes that inner edge (16) of the peripheral wall forming at least the peripheral edge of the case opening. That end of the barrier layer which is on the outer side of the case is formed in the middle of that opening end surface (15) of the case peripheral wall which is located between the outer edge (18) and the inner edge of the peripheral wall, and the end of the barrier layer terminates without reaching the outer edge.
