Abstract:
Disclosed is a sealed secondary battery, in which an electrode group (4) having an anode plate and a cathode plate are laminated or wound through a separator, and in which the opening of the battery case is sealed with a sealing plate (10). In the sealed secondary battery, a lead (11) extracted from one electrode plate of the electrode group is laser-welded (15) to the sealing plate with a laser beam. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing the sealed secondary battery.
The sealed secondary battery has been widely used as a driving power source for a mobile device, but has been evaluated on reliability including strength and found to have a problem that short-circuited batteries appear at a predetermined ratio. This difficulty is caused by the sputtering at the laser welding time.
The sealed secondary battery eliminates the difficulty by employing a laser beam having a spot diameter smaller than the thickness of the lead (11).
