Abstract:

Provided is a small-sized sealing device with a magnetic encoder, which prevents the surface of a magnetic encoder or a sensor from being damaged by the contamination of a foreign substance, thereby to retain a sufficient seal performance. The sealing device comprises a magnetic encoder (2), a protective cover (3) and a seal member (4), and is interposed between an outer member (21) and an inner member (22) for rotating relative to each other, thereby to seal the two members. The magnetic encoder (2) includes a core (5) mounted on that circumference of the rotational member of the two members (21 and 22), which faces the irrotational member, and a multipolar magnet (6) fixed on the axially-directed face of the core (5). The protective cover (3) is fitted and mounted on that circumference of the irrotational member, which faces the rotational member, and is housed in an annular seal mounting space (S) between the rotational member and the irrotational member, so that the protective cover (3) faces the multipolar magnet (6) of the magnetic encoder (2). The seal member (4) is mounted on the irrotational member to thereby seal the clearance between the core (5) of the magnetic encoder (2) and the seal member (4).
