Abstract:
According to the present invention both shear leakage of oil and pressure leakage due to a centrifugal force of oil concomitant with rotation of a member that performs a whirling motion are reduced by means of a surface texture applied to a sliding surface of an oil seal member. The present invention is characterized in that: an oil seal member 15 is provided on an outside surface of a member 5 that performs a whirling motion, such as a rotor of a rotary engine; a step 15c is provided in a circumferential direction in a part of a sliding surface 15b that slides relative to a stationary-side member 3 of the oil seal member 15; a relatively high surface is formed on one side, in the radial direction, of the step 15c, and a relatively low surface is formed on the other side, in the radial direction, of the step 15c; and a pumping groove 20 by means of which oil that is about to leak from the high-surface side to the low-surface side is pumped to the high-surface side as a result of sliding of the high surface relative to the stationary-side member 3 is provided in the high surface.
