In an emergency, the outer teeth (12b) of a pawl (12) on the right-side edge of a spool (9) engage the inner teeth (8c) of a frame (8), and the load from a seatbelt (4) brings the left-side edge of the spool (9) into contact with the spool pressing part (8h). The seatbelt (4) load moves the left-side edge of the spool (9) farther in the direction (y) in which the load is applied by the seatbelt, thereby causing the spool pressing unit (8h) to press the left-side edge of the spool (9) and the outer teeth (9c) to contact the inner teeth (8e) of the frame (8) and enter deeply into the gaps between the adjacent inner teeth (8e). Thus, the outer teeth (9c) of the spool (9) effectively engage the inner teeth (8e) of the frame through a simple movement of the spool (9).
