Abstract:
Provided are a status estimation device and method for estimating the status of a secondary battery, with which the status of a secondary battery when a large current is outputted can be estimated with a high degree of accuracy. This device for estimating the status of a secondary battery is provided with a sensor unit for detecting a terminal voltage and charge/discharge current of a secondary battery, and an internal resistance calculation unit for calculating a direct current internal resistance of the secondary battery on the basis of the terminal voltage and charge/discharge current detected by the sensor unit. The internal resistance calculation unit calculates the direct current internal resistance on the basis of the terminal voltage and charge/discharge current detected by the sensor unit in a stable period (T2) and a high-current output period (T3), the stable period being before startup of a drive source for running a vehicle and being when the terminal voltage and charge/discharge current of the secondary battery fall within a predetermined range of variation, and the high-current output period being when, during startup of the drive source, power for starting up the drive source is outputted from the secondary battery and the terminal voltage of the secondary battery substantially reaches a minimum.
