The present invention relates to a secondary battery which has reduced space in the height direction by means of moving a bus bar connection portion, which is electrically connected to an electrode terminal portion, to the lateral side of a case. For example, disclosed is a secondary battery comprising: an electrode assembly which comprises a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate and a separator formed between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate; a case in which the electrode assembly is inserted and which has a floor surface and a lateral surface extending upward from the floor surface; a cap plate which is coupled to the top part of the case; a first electrode terminal portion which is electrically connected to the first electrode plate and is formed through the cap plate; and a first bus bar connection portion which is electrically connected to the first electrode terminal portion and extends from the top part of the cap plate to the lateral surface of the case.
