Abstract:
Provided is a secondary cooling method for continuous cast slabs that facilitates facility maintenance and that can increase uniformity of cooling capacity. A secondary cooling method for continuous cast slabs according to the present invention is a method in which spray nozzles 21 each having a quadrangular ejection pattern are aligned in a slab width direction between guide rolls 19 disposed at an interaxial distance P (unit: mm) and each having a radius d (unit: mm) in the entire section or a part of the section in a casting direction of a horizontal zone 15 in a secondary cooling zone of a continuous casting machine 1 and cooling a slab 5, the secondary cooling method for continuous cast slabs being characterized in that a relationship between the interaxial distance P and a distance L (unit: mm) between a point A and a point B, which are two points where the water volume density of cooling water sprayed from each of the spray nozzles 21 becomes 50% of a maximum value of the water volume density in the casting direction, satisfies formula (1): L/P≥0.70, ant that cooling is performed while a nucleate boiling state is maintained in the range of the point A to the point B.
