Abstract:
The present invention relates to a multilayer security element (3), comprising: a substrate; a first optically variable structure supported by the substrate; a second optically variable structure supported by the substrate, the first and second structures having first and second non-vertically adjacent regions on the substrate; a structure having variable opacity at least partially vertically adjacent to the first and second regions, defining first and second areas with reduced opacity that are at least partially vertically adjacent to the first and second regions, respectively, and defining a surrounding area having greater opacity extending around the first and second areas, the surface covered by the first and second areas having reduced opacity being smaller than the surface covered by the surrounding area having greater opacity, the first and second structures being arranged such that, for a first direction of observation, the first and second optically variable structures have, when observed simultaneously through the first and second areas having reduced opacity, respectively, appearances that differ from one another, and for a second direction of observation different from the former, the first and second structures have, when observed simultaneously through the first and second areas having reduced opacity, respectively, changed appearance compared to the appearance thereof when observed in the first direction of observation, and also have appearances that differ from one another.
