Title:
SELECTIVE SEPARATION AND CONCENTRATION OF TOXIC NERVE AGENTS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003039701
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods of increasing the relative concentration of a target molecule in a gas stream, typically organophosphonates like DMMP or nerve agents like sarin, tabun or soman in air, so that it can be more easily detected, e.g. by a semiconducting metal oxide based sensor. The gas stream is passed through an adsorbent, typically silica. Either both the target molecules and the non-target molecules are adsorbed or only one type of these molecules are adsorbed. Desorption is performed using a chemical displacer. When both target molecules and non-target molecules are adsorbed, the chemical displacer is chosen so that it displaces only either the target molecules or the non-target molecules.
