Title:
SELF-ADHESIVE ELEMENT FOR DRAWING WOUND EDGES CLOSER TOGETHER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2006040379
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a self-adhesive element for drawing wound edges closer together. In medical practice involving wound healing and cicatrisation, the closure of a wound often requires the wound edges to be forced closer together mechanically using apposition or suture stitches. The inventive device consists of an assembly comprising two pieces of thin, specially-designed tape. The simplicity of the device enables same to be applied without difficulty by any first aid provider, including personnel with no special healthcare knowledge. The invention offers further additional advantages, e.g.: apposition of the edges with three resistant strips; good holding strength owing to the use of four self-adhesive zones; possible optimum wound ventilation, thereby enabling progress monitoring and checking; and easy topical application of the necessary medication. In addition, the device can be sterilised using standard methods and can be supplied in an individual package or in blocks containing several single units.
