CLAIMS
1. Self adhesive film with protective sheet over the adhesive, where along the longer edge of the protective sheet (3) of the adhesive (2) that the film (1) bears, a doublesided adhesive tape (5) is attached, so that when the film (1) is wrapped in a roll, the protective sheet (3) of the adhesive (2) is attached on the side of the film (1) that lacks adhesive. In the center of the same edge of the doublefaced adhesive tape (5), but from the side of the film (1), an adhesive strip (4) is attached in such a way that it projects from the side of the film (1), so that when it is pulled, the film (1) is detached from the protective sheet (3) of the adhesive (2) and is unwrapped with the adhesive (2) exposed, while the protective sheet (3) is stuck on the side of the film (1) that has no adhesive.
2. Tool for the placement of self adhesive film with protective sheet over the adhesive, which has a cylinder (6) for the containment of the film (1) roll, with an opening (7) along the cylinder (6) to enable the unwrapping of the film (1), a flat surface (8) for the spraying with water of the adhesive (2) before it touches the glass surface (11), a corner (12) in the joining between the cylinder (6) and the flat surface (8) so that during the pulling of the adhesive strip (4) the film (1) is easily detached from the protective sheet (3), and protruding edges (9) that do not allow the long edge (10) to press the film (1).
Description:
SELF-ADHESIVE FILM WITH PROTECTIVE SHEET AND A TOOL FOR ITS PLACEMENT The invention comprises of a self-adhesive film with a protective sheet over the adhesive. A double-sided adhesive tape is attached along one edge of the protective sheet. The purpose of this process is to attach the film, using a specific tool, to a surface (usually glass).

The installation of the film is made as follows : One person keeps the already- cut film unwrapped near the glass surface. Another person pulls and removes the protective sheet. After the protective sheet has been removed, the film's adhesive side and the glass surface are sprayed with water. Then the adhesive face of the film is placed on the wet glass surface. Since there is water between the film and the surface, the film can be dragged ("centered") into position. After putting the film into position, a person drags a wiper over the film in order to force out, the water held between the film and the glass surface. Finally, after the draining of the water, the film is adhered into place.

The disadvantages of this technique are the following At least 2 people are required when the glass surfaces are oblong. For surfaces that exceed 4 m2, 3 people are usually required.

There is a considerable time period (about 10 seconds) between the removal of the protective sheet and the placement of the film on the surface. The adhesive surface is left exposed during that period, and therefore, dust particles can be caught on the surface, getting stuck afterwards between the film and the glass surface.

Since one person keeps the film taut, and another sprays it, the required free space in front of the glass surface is at least 1 m.

Therefore, sometimes it is required to move objects and furniture.

When the process takes place outdoors, the wind must be calm during the installation, because the film can be easily creased.

According to the specifications of the present invention, a double-sided adhesive tape is attached along one edge of the film. As shown in drawing No 1, another adhesive strip is attached along the same edge, but from the side of the film. Subsequently, the film is wrapped in a roll (the other side of double-sided adhesive tape keeps the film wrapped in a roll since the protective layer has already been removed). The film roll is placed in the tool cylinder, so that the adhesive strip that projects from the opening touches the flat surface. By pulling the adhesive strip towards the edge of the tool, one can pull the film out of the opening, over the corner and the flat surface, and over the protruding edges. The protective sheet is detached from the adhesive, yet it remains attached because of the double-faced adhesive tape on the side of the film, which lacks adhesive. The film is pushed firmly by the protruding edges of the tool against the surface while sprayed with water, and towards the direction that needs to be covered, the film is gradually unwrapped and attached on the glass surface.

In this manner, the installation can be accomplished by one person, the adhesive surface is left exposed for just 1 second; and the required free space in front of the glass surface doesn't exceed 40 cm. In case the process is

carried out outdoors, the films have no danger of being creased and wrinkled by the wind.

Figure 1 shows the processed film from a 3-d perspective.

Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the processed film.

Figure 3 shows the required tool from a 3-d perspective.

Figure 4 shows a cross-section of the processed film, the required tool and the glass surface.

Initially, the glass surface (11) is measured and the film (1) is cut to the relevant size. In Figure 1 it is shown that along one edge (preferably the shortest one) of the protective sheet (3) of the adhesive (2), a double-sided adhesive tape (5) is attached. Along the same edge, but from the side of the film (1), a small adhesive strip (4) is attached. This adhesive strip (4) is attached to the center of the edge, and in such way that it projects from it. The adhesive strip (4) has adhesive only on one side. Afterwards, the film (1) is wrapped in a roll as shown in Figure 2, i. e. starting from the side opposite to the one with the attached double-sided adhesive tape (5), and with the protective sheet (3) facing inwards. When the wrapping is complete, the film is kept wrapped in a roll by the attached double-sided adhesive tape (5), after its protective layer has been removed. In order to fit in the cylinder (6), the diameter of the roll must not exceed the diameter of the cylinder (6). The roll is placed in the cylinder (6) in such a way that it projects by the same length from its two sides, and in such a way that the adhesive strip (4) projects from the opening (7) and touches the flat surface (8) of the tool. Figure 4 shows the attachment procedure. In front of the glass surface (11) the adhesive strip (4) with the film (1) is pulled over the corner (12), the flat surface (8), the protruding edges (9) and over the long edge (10) of the tool. Within the cylinder (6), the protective sheet (3) stays attached to the film (1), on the side opposite to the one with the adhesive (2), so that the film (1) slides out of the opening (7) without the protective sheet (3) on the adhesive (2). The adhesive strip (4) must be pulled so that the film (1) is unwrapped as shown in Figure 4.

The person that carries out the installation sprays the glass surface (11) and places the film (1), from the side with the adhesive (2), on the glass surface (11). Holding the tool by the cylinder (6) with one hand, and pressing with the protruding edges (9) the film (1) on the glass surface (11), the tool is pushed in the required direction from the cylinder (6) to the long edge (10) and almost parallel to the glass surface (11). The force exercised on the film (1) causes it to unwrap from inside the cylinder (6) and gradually attach itself to the glass surface (11). Holding a sprayer with the other hand, the person sprays water on the adhesive (2) of the film (1) on the surface defined between the opening (7) and the long edge (10) and along the whole length of the film (1). The protruding edges (9) are used so that the film (1) is not pressed along the entire length of the long edge (10) on the glass surface (11), but only on the protruding edges (9). Thus, some water is kept between the film (1) and the glass surface (11) and the film (1) can then be dragged into position.
