A heat exchange unit (22) for incorporation internally of a food or beverage container (20) in such a way that the external surface thereof is in contact with the food or beverage (18). A food grade coating (56) is adhered to and completely covers the entire exterior surface (54) of the heat exchange unit to preclude direct contact of the food or beverage with the surface of the heat exchange unit.
