Abstract:
Although the mode of erase is unnecessary since nonvolatile RAM allows reading/writing therefrom/thereto at random, it is desirable to have the erase mode from the system side because of being nonvolatile. Furthermore, an erase operation is desirable to be performed at low power and high speed. Hence, a semiconductor memory has memory cell arrays (COA, DTA) including a plurality of memory cells (MC) each having a magneto-resistive element, writes a string of data to the memory cell arrays (COA, DTA), and when erasing the string of data, writes predetermined data only to the memory cell array (COA), thereby performing the erase operation.
