Title:
SENSITIVE DISTANCE METER FOR SURGICAL OPERATIONS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/101594
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The developed delicate distance meter helps the accurate calculation of the size of the material (prothesis) for reconstruction in case of a problem in ear surgeries of ossicle chain (malleus, anvil, stirrup). It makes the process easier for the surgeon.

CLAIMS

1. The invention is a device that delicately measures the size of the material (prothesis) to be used in hearing reconstruction surgeries. Its characteristics are as follow: Jag (1), Measurement wire (2), Steel tube (3), marking point (4),

Indicator (5), Trigger (6), Stem (7) and Measurement panel (8).

2. It is a measurement device as stated in Claim 1. Its working principle:

- The bulge (1) on the edge of the tool is placed onto the long arm of the anvil, where the hooked part of the prothesis is placed, the trigger of the device is pulled for the measurement operation (6a)

- Measurement wire is proceeded in the steel tube (3). When the wire is in the location to be measured (2a), It goes out the bulge (1) and proceeds to location where the other end of the prothesis will penetrate on the base of the stirrup

- On the indicator (5) which is divided by marks with specific distance on the measurement panel (8), marking point (4) on the wire covers a distance,

- The proceeding location (4a) of the marking point on the indicator panel shows the measurement value.

Description:
SENSITIVE DISTANCE METER FOR SURGICAL OPERATIONS

Technical Area

The invention will help the sensitive determination of the size of prothesis to be placed between the long arm of the anvil and stirrup base in autosclerosis (stirrup calsification) surgery.

Known Condition of the Technique (Previous Technique)

In the autosclerosis surgery, in the technique where the size of the prothesis is known, a measurement apparatus is used during the surgery. Under microscope, the end of the measurement apparatus is placed on the base of the stirrup where the end of the prothesis is placed. On the jags of the apparatus, the jag which corresponds to the long arm of the anvil (where the other end of the prothesis will be placed) or the jag which is near to it will be taken as a reference to calculate the length of the prothesis. During the surgery, prothesis is cut and placed according to that distance. In this surgery, even measurement which is wrong by 1 milimeter causes the surgery to fail as it is performed under microscope. In the known technique, the measurement apparatus is a thin, plain and metal tool, - similar to stylus. It is grabbed by hand like holding a pencil. It is slided into the ear through the outer ear channel. It contains jags qwith specific distance only on the end. As the stick is straight and it is held like a pencil, during the operation, the hand of the surgeon goes between the microscope perspective of the surgeon and the operational area. This situation prevents a good view. Mesurement, which is carried out by using a measurement stick, enables visual fallibility. In some situations, the relationship between the jags on the measurement stick and the bone where the prothesis will be placed cannot be traced thoroughly due to the perspective. When a prothesis whose length is determined with wrong measurement is used, the patient may experience some serious complications after the surgery such as loss of hearing, dizziness, or dislocation of the prothesis. In the preliminary research, a different study is not encountered in this topic in patent databases and academic studies.

The Purpose of the Invention

Ossicle chain reconstruction surgeries and especially autosclerosis (ear calsification) surgeries are very important and delicate surgeries (removing the stirrup and placing a prothesis in an appropriate length) in terms of enabling hearing. For this reason, measuring the exact length of the prothesis is vital for the success of the surgery. When the length of the prothesis is longer or shorter than 1 mm, it can create serious issues such as permanent hear loss and dizziness. The purpose of this invention is enabling the exact measurement of the prothesis to be used in surgery and preventing problems that can occur after it. Explanation of the Figures

The invention, which can be used as a distance meter in all ear operations, especially in autosclerosis (ear calsification), aims at measuring the length of the prothesis to be used in the patient as accurately as possible. This measurement tool is completely mechanical. It carries out its measurement function with the built in metal measurement panel (8). There is an indicator (5) and a marker point (4) on the measurement wire (2) on the metal measurement panel. In order to prevent the hand of the surgeon from going between the microscope ocular (microscope lens which the surgeon looks at) and the surgical area during the operation, there is a stem (7) under the tool which can be held by the surgeon, a trigger (6) to guide the measurement wire (2). Steel measurement wire (2) on the measurement panel (8) passes through a very thin steel tube (3) up to the end of the measurement tool. There is a small jag on the end of the steel tube on the edge of the part to be inserted into the ear. This jag (1) will be touched to the long arm of the anvil. The jag on the edge of the tool, the end of the measurement wire (2), and trigger (6) are in the same level in normal position.

Application of the Invention in Industry Serial production of the invention, which helps the delicate calculation of the size of the material (prothesis) to be used in surgical operations for reconstruction, is possible in medical sector.
