Title:
SENSOR ELEMENT FOR OPTICALLY DETECTING CHEMICAL OR BIOCHEMICAL ANALYTES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2001069256
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sensor element for optically detecting chemical or biochemical analytes which can be contained in different samples. According to the invention, the sample volume required is as small as possible, the individual samples can be arranged adjacent to one another in a relatively tight manner and measuring accuracy is still high. At least one boundary surface is configured on the sensor element. An evanescent field is embodied on said surface by means of a total reflection. The samples are received in cavities that are separated from one another and are configured within a structured outer layer that is directly applied to a substrate. The layer thickness of the outer layer is at least greater than the penetration depth of the evanescent field. The outer layer consists of a fluorinated polymer and prevents the exchange of material of the individual samples which are received in the different cavities.
