Abstract:
A bearing adapted for use in a wheel and equipped with a sensor is configured in such a manner that a load acting on the wheel can be detected accurately in any load conditions. A bearing for a wheel is formed by arranging rolling bodies (5) between opposed double-row rolling surfaces (3, 4) of an outer member (1) and an inner member (2). The outer member (1) or the inner member (2), which is a fixed member, is provided on the outer diameter surface thereof with at least three or more sensor units (20). Each of the sensor units (20) comprises a deforming member (21) having two or more contact and fixed sections making contact with and fixed to the outer diameter surface of the fixed member, and also comprises one or more strain sensors (22) mounted to the deforming member (21) and detecting strain in the deforming member (21). The bearing for a wheel is also provided with load estimating means (31, 32) for estimating, from output signals from the strain sensors (22) of the three or more sensor units (20), a radial load acting in the radial direction of the bearing for a wheel and an axial load acting in the axial direction of the bearing for a wheel.
