Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method with which a composite material can be separated without causing cracks in end surfaces of a brittle material layer after separation and serious thermal degradation in end surfaces of a resin layer after separation. [Solution] A method for separating composite material 10 wherein a brittle material layer 1 and a resin layer 2 are laminated includes: a resin elimination step for irradiating the resin layer along a predetermined separation line DL on the composite material with laser light L1 oscillated from a CO2 laser light source 20 and forming a processing groove 24 along the predetermined separation line; a brittle material elimination step for irradiating the brittle material layer along the predetermined separation line with laser light L2 oscillated from an ultrashort pulsed laser light source 30 after the resin elimination step and forming a processing mark 11 along the predetermined separation line; and a composite material separation step for separating the composite material by applying an external force along the predetermined separation line after the brittle material elimination step. The processing mark formed in the brittle material elimination step is characterized by being perforation-like through holes along the predetermined separation line and the pitch of the through holes being 10 µm or less.
