Abstract:
The present invention relates to a separator having a porous polymer substrate and an inorganic matter particle layer formed on at least one surface of the porous polymer substrate. The separator has improved electrolyte insolubility and dimensional stability under high temperature so that even when an electrochemical device is overheated, a short between the positive electrode and the negative electrode can be prevented, and the high temperature cycle characteristics of the electrochemical device can be improved. Also, the electrolyte impregnability of the separator is increased so as to improve discharging characteristics due to an improvement in the degree of ion transfer. Accordingly, the separator according to the present invention has good thermal resistance, and an electrochemical device including same displays the same level of performance as existing separators in terms of electrochemical characteristics, thus making the separator suitable for electrochemical devices requiring thermal resistance, especially lithium secondary batteries for electric vehicles.
