Abstract:
Provided is a sewing machine that makes it possible to improve the visibility of the needle position. This sewing machine is provided with a threading mechanism (120). The threading mechanism (120) moves a threading hook for passing a needle thread through the needle hole (8A) of a sewing needle (8) between a standby position prior to passing said thread through the needle hole (8A) and an operation position after passing said thread through the needle hole (8A). The threading mechanism (120) is driven by a threading motor (40). The sewing machine is further provided with a thread-holding member (90) and a movement mechanism (130). The thread-holding member (90) includes a cutting blade for cutting the needle thread, and a plate spring for clamping and holding the end of the cut needle thread. The movement mechanism (130) moves the thread-holding member (90) between a lowest position and a retracted position. The lowest position is a position that protrudes frontward from the needle bar case of the sewing machine, and that is obliquely above the sewing needle (8) on the front side. It is possible to cut the needle thread with the cutting blade at said lowest position. The retracted position is a position further toward the back side than the lowest position.
