Abstract:
This shaft member is made of steel and has a surface. The steel contains 0.10-0.40 mass% (inclusive) of carbon, 0.10-2.50 mass% (inclusive) of silicon, 0.30-1.20 mass% (inclusive) of manganese, 0.40-3.00 mass% (inclusive) of chromium, and 1.00 mass% or less of molybdenum, with the remainder made up by iron and unavoidable impurities. The distance between the surface of the shaft member and a first position at which the hardness of the steel is 653 Hv is 0.2-1.0 mm (inclusive). The nitrogen concentration at the surface is 0.2-1.2 mass% (inclusive), and the carbon concentration at the surface is 0.6-1.2 mass% (inclusive). The half-value width of the peak of the martensite crystal (211)-face at a second position at which the depth Z (unit: mm) from the surface relative to the diameter D (unit: mm) of the shaft member is 0.085D in X-ray diffraction peaks is 6.5° or less.
