Title:
SHAPED ARTICLES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A MINERAL MELT THAT IS TO BE REDUCED TO FIBERS AND IS USED FOR PRODUCING INSULATING MATERIALS MADE OF MINERAL FIBERS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2006042757
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a shaped article, especially as a primary medium for the transmission of energy used for producing a mineral melt that is to be reduced to fibers and is utilized for manufacturing insulating materials made of mineral fibers, particularly rock wool. Said shaped article comprises a fine-grained and carbon-containing fraction which is bonded by means of a binder and has a maximum grain size of 50 mm. In order to create a generic shaped article that does not have the drawbacks of shaped articles known in prior art while being provided above all with great strength regarding abrasion and breaking, at least 50 percent by weight of the carbon-containing fraction have a grain size = 25 mm such that the larger-sized components form a supporting frame while the smaller-grained components having a grain size = 25 mm fill the intermediate spaces, the carbon-containing fraction and the binder being provided with a packing density = 1.250 kg/m3.
