Abstract:
Provided is a sheet-form polishing article having a long service life, wherein independent air bubbles in a polishing-material layer provided to the sheet-form polishing article ensure a space between a cut material and the surface of the polishing-material layer to facilitate discharge of cut chips of the cut material, without air bubbles for discharging cut chips being provided in the polishing-material layer, and the independent air bubbles in a polishing-material-layer surface layer part burst due to friction produced through polishing work and new abrasive grains act on the cut material, whereby the polishing-material layer has self-dressing properties. Provided is a sheet-form polishing article comprising a base material and a polishing-material layer provided to one surface of the base material, the polishing article characterized in that: the polishing-material layer contains independent air bubbles, first abrasive grains, and a first adhesive binder; the inside diameter of the independent air bubbles is 30-200 μm; the average particle diameter of the first abrasive grains is one third or less of the inside diameter of the independent air bubbles; the first adhesive binder binds the polishing-material layer to the base material; and, in terms of the entire volume of the polishing-material layer, the independent air bubbles account for 70-85 vol% of the polishing-material layer, the first abrasive grains account for 5-13 vol% of the polishing-material layer, and the first adhesive binder accounts for the remainder of the polishing-material layer.
