Abstract:
A bundle (18) of paper money inserted through an insertion inlet (24) is disposed between a carrier belt (6) and a lowered clamp belt (5) and is horizontally carried. A clamp position detection sensor (7) detects a position at which lowering of the clamp belt (5) is stopped. Based on the position, the thickness of the paper money bundle (18) is calculated. A gap between an upper guide member (12) and a lower guide member (13) is set to a value calculated by adding a predetermined height (Y) to the thickness of the paper money bundle (18). If the paper money bundle (18) is carried between the guide members (12, 13), the upper guide member (12) is lowered. Next, the clamp belt (5) is lifted. A hook (8) is rotated to hit the rear end of the paper money bundle (18). Thereafter, both the guide members (12, 13) are lowered to carry the paper money bundle (18) until the paper money bundle (18) makes contact with a discharge roller (14). Although paper money is folded or bent, the paper money can be discharged one after another by the discharge roller (14).
