A sheet material that while having an appearance excelling in spatial effect, exhibits satisfactory surface abrasion strength and cushion and nonslip properties and that thus is suitable for use as, for example, a surface material of basket ball, etc. There is provided a sheet material comprising a fibrous base material and, superimposed on a surface thereof, a polymer coating layer, characterized in that the coating layer on its surface has substantially continuous protrudent portions and, arranged adjacent to the protrudent portions, hemispherical depressed portions, and that the depressed portions have a color tone different from that of the protrudent portions and have a gloss intenser than that of the protrudent portions, and that the depressed portions have a vertical projection area of 3 to 30 mm² and an average interval between adjacent depressed portions of 0.5 to 3 mm while the protrudent portions and the depressed portions exhibit a vertical interval of 50 to 1000 μm.
