Abstract:
A sorting device (1A) recognizes address information provided on a sheet or the like
through an on-line OCR (22) and compares results recognized through the on-line
OCR (22) with address information stored at address information database units(23,
3). If the result recognized through the on-line OCR (22) is not consistent with
any character information stored at the address information database units (23,
3) at all, the sorting device (1A) judges whether or not to transfer an image on
the sheet or the like to other sorting devices (1B, 1C, ...) on the basis of processing states
of the other sorting devices (1B, 1C, ...) with which the sorting device (1A) can
communicate. If the sorting device (1A) judges that it does not transfer the
image of the sheet or the like, an off-line OCR (35), the recognition method of
which is different from that of the OCR (22), recognizes character information from
the image and, if the sorting device (1A) judges that it transfers the image on
the sheet or the like, the sorting device (1A) does it to the other sorting devices (1B,
1C, ...).
