Abstract:
A shelf frame assembly system includes a first vertical post that includes a plurality of openings, a side beam comprising a receiving bore, an end piece having a coupling portion and a receiving portion that includes a plurality of protrusions, and an end connector configured to be inserted into one of the plurality of openings. The end connector includes a plurality of recesses configured to receive the plurality of protrusions and a stop configured to make contact with at least one edge of the one of the plurality of openings. The receiving bore of the side beam is configured to receive the coupling portion of the end piece. The receiving portion of the side beam connector is configured to receive the end connector. Further, the plurality of protrusions are configured to resist a horizontal withdrawal of the side beam connector from the end connector.

What is claimed is:

1 . A shelf frame assembly system comprising:

a first vertical post that includes a plurality of openings disposed on a surface of the vertical post;

a side beam comprising a receiving bore disposed at a first end of the side beam;

an end piece having a coupling portion and a receiving portion, the receiving portion includes a plurality of protrusions; and

an end connector configured to be inserted into one of the plurality of openings, the end connector includes a plurality of recesses configured to receive the plurality of protrusions and a stop configured to make contact with at least one edge of the one of the plurality of openings;

wherein the receiving bore of the side beam is configured to receive the coupling portion of the end piece;

wherein the receiving portion of the end piece is configured to receive the end connector; and

wherein the plurality of protrusions are configured to resist a horizontal withdrawal of the end piece from the end connector.

2. A shelf frame assembly system comprising:

a first vertical post that includes a plurality of openings disposed on a surface of the vertical post;

a side beam comprising a receiving bore disposed at a first end of the side beam and a recessed portion disposed on a lower portion of the side beam configured to engage an edge of one of the plurality of openings; and

an end piece having one or more flexible portions, an upper portion, and a stop, each of the flexible portions includes a barb;

wherein engaging the edge of the opening creates a gap between an upper portion of the side beam and another edge of the opening; wherein the end piece is configured to be pressed into the gap such that the upper portion makes contact with the other edge of the opening, each of the flexible portions temporarily flex inward toward each other and return to an original position in response to the barb on each of the flexible portions snapping onto a respective side edge of the opening; and

wherein the stop prevents the end piece from being pressed into the opening beyond the stop. 3. The shelf frame assembly system of Claim 1 , further comprising a second vertical post and a post connector configured to connect said first vertical post to said second vertical post, wherein said post connector extends perpendicularly to said side beam. 4. The shelf frame assembly system of Claim 1 , wherein said plurality of recesses of said end connector are disposed on an outer surface of said end connector and wherein said plurality of protrusions of said end piece are disposed on an inner surface of said end piece. 5. A shelf frame assembly system comprising:

a vertical post comprising a plurality of openings;

a side beam comprising a receiving portion disposed at a first end of the side beam;

an end piece having a coupling portion and a receiving portion, said receiving portion comprising a plurality of protrusions; and

an end connector configured to engage one of said plurality of openings, said end connector comprising a plurality of recesses configured to receive said plurality of protrusions and a stop configured to prevent said end connector from passing through one of said plurality of openings;

wherein said receiving portion of said side beam is configured to receive said coupling portion of said end piece;

wherein said receiving portion of said end piece is configured to receive said end connector; and wherein said plurality of protrusions are configured to resist a horizontal withdrawal of said side beam connector from said end connector. 6. A shelf frame assembly system comprising:

a vertical post;

a side beam comprising a receiving portion disposed at a first end of the side beam;

a connection apparatus comprising one or more connection modules;

wherein said receiving portion of said side beam is configured to receive one or more of said connection modules;

wherein said connection apparatus is capable of connecting said side beam to said vertical post; and

wherein said connection apparatus is configured to resist both a horizontal withdrawal of said side beam from said vertical post, and a rotational force of said side beam about the axis of said vertical post.

7. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 6, wherein said vertical post comprises one of a plurality of openings disposed on a surface of said vertical post, and a plurality of notches disposed on a surface of said vertical post.

8. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 7, wherein said connection apparatus comprises at least one of an end piece and an end connector. 9. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 8, wherein said end piece comprises a connection portion configured to fit within a receiving bore of said side beam, an end portion, a middle portion, an upper portion, and a locking portion angled such that said locking portion can be wedged into one of said plurality of openings and provide withdrawal resistance; and wherein said end connector comprises a receiving portion configured to receive said upper portion and a recessed portion comprising a cutout portion configured to engage an edge of one of said plurality of openings.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 8, wherein said end piece comprises one or more flexible portions, an upper portion, and a stop, said flexible portion comprising a barb, and wherein said end piece is configured to be pressed into a gap between an upper portion of said side beam and an edge of one of said plurality of openings such that said upper portion makes contact with another edge of one of said plurality of openings; and wherein each of said flexible portions temporarily flex inward toward each other and return to an original position in response to said barb on each of said flexible portions snapping onto a respective side edge of one of said plurality of openings and wherein said stop prevents said end piece from being pressed into one of said plurality of openings beyond said stop.

1 1 . The shelf frame assembly of Claim 6, wherein said side beam comprises one or more openings operable to engage one or more of said connection modules.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 1 1 , further comprising an end beam extending perpendicularly to said side beam, said end beam comprising a coupling portion, wherein a plurality of projections are disposed on an upper portion of said coupling portion, said plurality of projections engaging said side beam, thus resisting a horizontal withdrawal of said side beam from said vertical post.

13. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 1 1 , wherein said connection apparatus comprises one or more fasteners operable to engage said openings in said side beam, and wherein said fasteners are configured to resist a horizontal withdrawal of said side beam from said vertical post.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 13, wherein said connection apparatus further comprises an end collar and a plurality of spacers, wherein said end collar comprises a cylindrical portion and a pair of flat portions, said cylindrical portion comprising a first end, a second end, and a cylindrical bore, and said plurality of flat portions comprising a plurality of holes which are configured to

33 align with a plurality of holes on said plurality of spacers, thus allowing said fasteners to pass through said plurality of holes and engage an end beam extending perpendicularly to said side beam. 15. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 13, further comprising an end beam extending perpendicularly to said side beam, wherein said end beam comprises a coupling portion operable to engage said side beam.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 15, wherein said connection apparatus comprises a top cap and a bottom snap, both configured to engage said opening in said side beam and an opening in said coupling portion of said end beam, and wherein said top cap comprises two sides, a recessed portion, and a stop portion, and said bottom snap comprises two sides, a recessed portion, a spherical bore, and a stop portion.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 15, wherein said connection apparatus comprises an end connector comprising a plurality of recessed portions, a cylindrical through bore, a projection portion, and a stop, and wherein said coupling portion of said end beam comprises a first side, a second side opposite said first side, and a receiving portion configured to receive said side beam.

18. The shelf frame assembly of Claim 15, wherein said coupling portion of said end beam comprises a bore configured to receive said vertical post, an end connector, an insert, and a slot configured to receive a coupling mechanism.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 15, wherein said connection apparatus comprises a cap, said cap comprising a plurality of barbed projections, and wherein said coupling portion of said end beam comprises a receiving bore configured to receive said vertical post, a plurality of recesses configured to receive said plurality of barbed projections, and a plurality of grooves configured to receive said side beam.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 12, wherein said coupling portion of said end beam comprises an opening configured to receive an end of the side beam, a guide, and a projection configured to engage an opening in said side beam, thus resisting a horizontal withdrawal of said side beam from said vertical post.

The shelf frame assembly of Claim 6, wherein said connection apparatus comprises a snap mechanism and a taper insert, said snap mechanism comprising a first opening, a second opening, and toothed portions and said taper insert comprising an insert guide portion, an expansion portion, and a stop portion.
