Abstract:
This shock absorber is equipped with an intake channel (3) for only allowing the flow from a reservoir (R) to a pressure-side chamber (R2), a rectifying channel (4) for only allowing the flow from the pressure-side chamber (R2) to an extension-side chamber (R1), and a variable valve (V) for only allowing the flow from the extension-side chamber (R1) to the reservoir (R). The interior of the shock absorber is provided with a large chamber (16) serving as a pressure-side pressure chamber for connecting to the pressure-side chamber (R2), and an outer-peripheral chamber (17) serving as an extension-side pressure chamber for connecting to the extension-side chamber (R1), which sandwich a free piston (5) for sliding in the interior of a bottom member (11) serving as a housing. The pressure-side pressure-receiving surface area (A1) of the free piston (5) is set so as to be larger than the extension-side pressure-receiving surface area (B1) thereof; hence, during a contraction operation in which a piston (2) moves downward, the damping force during a high-frequency input is reduced, because the free piston (5) moves downward even in a uniflow-type shock absorber in which the extension-side chamber (R1) and the pressure-side chamber (R2) are at identical pressures.
