Abstract:
A shock absorber is provided with: a damping valve for generating a damping force by suppressing the flow of a hydraulic fluid, which is produced by the sliding of a piston; a closed-bottom cylindrical pilot case for forming a pilot chamber in cooperation with the damping valve, the pilot chamber applying pressure to the damping valve, the pressure acting in the direction in which the damping valve closes; and an annular seal member (146) provided secured to the outer peripheral side of the back surface of the damping valve and fitted to the cylinder section of the pilot case in a slidable and liquid-tight manner. The shock absorber is configured in such a manner that a part of the flow of the hydraulic fluid is introduced into the pilot chamber, and the opening of the damping valve is prevented by pressure within the pilot chamber. An annular recess (380) is formed on the outer peripheral side of the seal member (146), and an annular protrusion (385) is formed on the inner peripheral side of the seal member (146).
