Abstract:
This shock absorber has a piston rod, an inner cylinder into which the piston rod is inserted, an electrorheological fluid provided between the piston rod and the inner cylinder, and a voltage application mechanism for applying a voltage to the electrorheological fluid, wherein the electrorheological fluid of the shock absorber has a base oil and temperature-expandable particles having an average linear expansion coefficient of 1.4 × 10-4/°C or higher so that the value of temperature dependence, represented by (viscosity of electrorheological fluid at -30°C/viscosity of electrorheological fluid at 23°C) × 100, is 300% or lower.
