Abstract:
A shock absorber comprises a cylinder filled with hydraulic fluid, a piston slidably fitted into the cylinder, a piston rod connected to the piston and extending to the outside of the cylinder, a plurality of passages through which the hydraulic fluid flows as a result of sliding of the piston inside the cylinder, and a damping force generation mechanism that is provided in some of the passages and restricts the flow of the hydraulic fluid to generate a damping force. The damping force generation mechanism includes a valve body inside of which the passages pass through, an annular seat into which the valve body projects and which surrounds the passages, and a disk which is installed so as to be capable of seating on the seat, the contact width between the disk and the seat varying depending on a circumferential position. As a result, a shock absorber capable of preventing a sudden change in the damping force caused by opening of the disk valve without using a complicated structure is obtained.
