Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to enable a large load in a vehicle collision to be efficiently absorbed using a simple configuration.
The present shock absorbing member has: a tube-shaped member (20) configured so as to be crushed in the axial direction when subjected to an impact load in the axial direction; a wooden material (12) housed within the tube-shaped member (20) in such a manner that the axial direction of the growth ring is aligned with the axial direction of the tube-shaped member (20); and positioning means (25, 34w, 36w) for positioning the opposite axial ends of the wooden material (12) relative to the opposite axial ends of the tube-shaped member (20) in such a manner that a gap (S) is formed around the entire periphery between the outer surface of the wooden material (12) and the inner wall surface of the tube-shaped member (20). The shock absorbing member is configured in such a manner that an impact load is received in the axial direction of the wooden material (12) and the tube-shaped member (20).
