Title:
SHORT POINT ANTI-CROSS-THREADING SCREW
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000031424
Kind Code:
A8
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel fastener member, stud, or other threaded member (22, 22b), for engagement with a female member (26), and the method of assembly thereof. The fastener member (22, 22b) has a novel point (20, 20b) which facilitates engagement of the fastener member (22, 22b) in the threaded bore (24), greatly reduces the possibility of cross-threading and is especially suited for use in applications involving blind holes or the use of very thin threaded holes. The fastener member (22, 22b) has a threaded shank portion (36, 36b). A point (20, 20b) is provided at the end of the shank portion (36, 36b) and includes an unthreaded radiused portion (44, 44b) and a threaded transition portion (42, 42b) between the shank portion (36, 36b) and the radiused portion (44, 44b). The major surfaces of the threads (56, 56b) of the transition portion (42, 42b) gradually lessen between the opposite ends thereof. The radiused portion (44) can be provided with a truncated end surface (60).
