Abstract:
The present invention provides a shot peening method to reduce the costs for shot peening. The shot peening method includes a first step of directing shot particles onto a workpiece to treat the workpiece by shot peening; and a second step, subsequent to the first step, of using the shot peening apparatus and the shot particles which were used in the first step to direct the shot particles against the workpiece at a shot velocity lower than a shot velocity in the first step to treat the workpiece by shot peening. According to this method, the treatment in the first step and the treatment in the second step can provide a desired residual compressive stress distribution, while the treatment in the second step that is performed at the shot velocity lower than the shot velocity in the first step can provide a reduce surface roughness to the workpiece. Furthermore, the shot particles need not to be replaced and the re-setting of treatment conditions which would otherwise result from the replacement is not required, either. Furthermore, there is no necessity of using a plurality of shot peening apparatuses. Accordingly, the costs for shot peening can be reduced.
