Abstract:
A Stokes vector acquisition unit (252) acquires a standardized Stokes vector in a dual polarization multilevel intensity modulation (DP-M-IM) signal receiver (200). The Stokes vector acquisition unit (252) further acquires the power of a DP-M-IM signal. A state-of-polarization (SOP) following unit (254) generates a reference vector. The reference vector is a unit vector that follows the standardized Stokes vector or the reversed vector of the standardized Stokes vector in accordance with a change of the standardized Stokes vector in a Stokes space in which the SOP in the DP-M-IM signal receiver (200) is represented. A polarization separation unit (256) calculates an x-polarization intensity and a y-polarization intensity in a DP-M-IM signal transmitter (100) on the basis of the standardized Stokes vector, the power and the reference vector.
