Title:
SILENCER FOR THE EXHAUST NOISE IN AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/005488
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of engine construction and relates to a silencer having a body that comprises a tangential inlet tube as well as an outlet tube. At least two housings are mounted coaxially in the body and define together with the latter, in a direction extending from the axis towards said body, an intermediate inlet chamber as well as an outlet chamber. The cavities of said chambers are serially connected together through openings formed in the housings. The cavity of the tangential inlet tube is connected to the cavity of the inlet chamber, while the cavity of the outlet chamber is connected to the cavity of the outlet tube. This invention is characterised in that the body is made in the shape of a coil having its outlet rigidly connected to the tangentially-mounted outlet tube. The housings are defined by a plurality of tangential guiding vanes between which wedge-shaped openings having a reduced section are provided and lead to the gas inlet. The vanes in the housings are inclined in opposite directions. In the first housing from the axis, the vanes are inclined in a direction that corresponds to the rotation direction of the in-coming gas from the tangential inlet tube. This system is used for reducing the aerodynamic resistance as well as the amount of labour during the manufacturing process while improving the ecological characteristics of the silencer.
