Title:
SILICON CARBIDE THERMOSTABLE POROUS STRUCTURAL MATERIAL AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2004/011388
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A carbon-powder-made porous structural body of corporeal skeleton obtained by molding carbon powder is impregnated and coated with a slurry of a resin as a carbon source and silicon powder, carbonized at 900 to 1300ºC in vacuum or an inert atmosphere and subjected to reactive sintering performed at 1300ºC or higher temperature in vacuum or an inert atmosphere. Thus, not only can porous silicon carbide exhibiting high wettability with fused silicon be produced but also a carbonized porous structural body having open pores attributed to volume reduction reaction formed therein can be obtained. This carbonized porous structural body is subjected to silicon fusion impregnation performed at 1300 to 1800ºC in vacuum or an inert atmosphere.
