In order to simplify a repetitive operation when a key image for retrieval (a face) is specified in moving images, when a face is clicked, a face detection process is performed with respect to images which are automatically advanced by one frame, and thus the relevant person can be selected successively, and a scene in which the relevant person appears continuously over time can be selected without operating a viewer. When the relevant person is not detected (for example, when the relevant person is covered by a person in the foreground), the "Next" button is pressed. As another example, when one face is specified all of the face detection results in the vicinity of the specified image (for example, from five seconds before to five seconds after the specified image, for a total of ten seconds) are displayed, and the user specifies the face of the relevant person in those results, and thus multiple images of a series of persons can be specified without operating a viewer. As another example, the results of the automatic tracking of a person are displayed on an operation terminal, and thus the user can check for a mistake in the results of the automatic tracking of a person, and if there is a mistake, the mistake can be corrected.
