Abstract:
A single cylinder type hydraulic shock absorber (100) for a vehicle interposed
between the body and the axle of the vehicle and suppressing the vibration of the
vehicle body. The hydraulic shock absorber (100) comprises a cylinder (1), a
free piston (2) slidably inserted into the cylinder (1) and partitioning the
inside of the cylinder (1) into a liquid chamber (7) and a gas chamber (8), a piston
(3) slidably inserted into the cylinder (1) and partitioning the liquid chamber
(7) into two pressure chambers (7a, 7b), a rod (4) having one end connected to the
piston (3), and an elastic member (9) received in the gas chamber (8) and biasing
the free piston (2) in the direction to the liquid chamber (7). The elastic member
(9) is so set that a spring constant is increased during its compression.
