The present invention is a slide actuator having: a fixed part 2; a movable part 3 capable of advancing and retreating along a prescribed direction relative to the fixed part 2; a plurality of balls 5 interposed between the fixed part 2 and the movable part 3, the balls 5 movably supporting the movable part 3; retainers 6 interposed between the balls 5, the retainers 6 maintaining the interval between the balls 5 so as to be fixed, and advancing and retreating within a prescribed stroke range Lr; wall parts 2b, 2c of the fixed part 2 that are provided in the movement direction of the retainers 6; and a retainer spring 14 that has spring properties of a prescribed spring constant k, the retainer spring 14 linking the wall parts 2b, 2c and the retainers 6, wherein the retainer spring 14 is disposed so as to suppress large displacement of the retainers 6 in the movement direction, and the spring constant k is set to a value at which the retainers 6 cause the balls 5 to produce sliding friction in a prescribed range exceeding the prescribed stroke range Lr and the retainers 6 push back the balls 5.
