A slide fastener and a method for manufacturing a slide fastener, wherein the fastener element rows can be both dyed and matted and the slide fastener can be manufactured at reduced cost. A slide fastener is provided with: a pair of fastener tapes (20); a pair of fastener element rows (30) provided respectively to the opposing tape-side edges (20a) of the pair of fastener tapes (20) and having fastener elements (31); and a slider (40) for causing the pair of fastener element rows (30) to engage with and be disengaged from each other. The fastener element rows (30) consist of synthetic resin monofilaments (50). The monofilaments (50) have, on the surfaces thereof, surface layers (51) which can be dyed with dyestuff. Coarse surfaces (52) having a large number of recesses are formed on the surfaces of the surface layers (51).
