Abstract:
Provided is a sliding component with which a groove unmachined section large enough to stably hold a fluid membrane can be ensured while the lubricity of a sliding surface is sufficiently ensured. A sliding surface S of an annular sliding component 6 disposed in a relatively rotating location of a rotating machine has a plurality of dynamic pressure generating groove groups 20 provided in a circumferential direction, the groove groups being configured from a plurality of dynamic pressure generating grooves G having starting points 21 where the grooves open in one end edge of the sliding surface S in a diametrical direction and ending points 22 where the grooves close in the sliding surface S while extending in the circumferential direction. In comparison with dynamic pressure generating grooves G1, 17 positioned at both ends of the dynamic pressure generating groove groups 20, dynamic pressure generating grooves G2-16 provided between these dynamic pressure generating grooves positioned at both ends are formed longer in the circumferential direction.
