Abstract:
Disclosed is a sliding member having a pit (122A) formed on an inner circumferential surface (121) that slides with respect to an opposing member. Since the pit (122A) differs from the cross-hatch pattern of the open cross-sectional shape of the conventional art and is mutually independent of other pits, the fluid lubrication characteristics can be improved when an oil film forms between the various regions of a piston (140). The pit (122A) is coated with a DLC film (123). The DLC film (123) has very high seizure resistance and abrasion resistance and, accordingly, the inner circumferential surface (121) which is coated with the DLC film (123) can be made smoother than the surface of the cross-hatch pattern of the open cross-sectional shape of the conventional art. As a result, apart from the improved seizure resistance and abrasion resistance, a better compression ratio can be achieved because of improved environmental compatibility, reduction in weight and improved thermal conductivity, and a reduction in friction loss can be achieved at lower cost.
