Abstract:
Provided is a sliding member wherein a sliding layer is capable of exhibiting excellent sliding properties in terms of seizure resistance, wear resistance, and heat resistance. This method is for manufacturing the sliding member that slides against an opposing member and involves: a crosslinking step of irradiating ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene in particulate form under sealed conditions to crosslink the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene; a composition preparation step of preparing a sliding layer composition that contains a solid lubricant and a binder resin; and a sliding layer forming step of forming the sliding layer that slides against the opposing member by providing the sliding layer composition on a base material. The solid lubricant includes the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene crosslinked in the crosslinking step.
